I think the awning is out there for the same reason as Radlett on the Midland line. When the line was electrified the clearances were insufficient which necssitated the demolition of the awnings. In the case of Radlett there was a big fuss about it because the canopies were well preserved and if I recall, listed as well. Their replacements were a poor substitute. You can see the preserved section here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Radlett_Main_Building_(2).jpg

Hello Andrew, many thanks for your message and for taking the time and trouble to write. I hadn't realised it was to do with the clearances so thank you for putting me wise. I don't go through Radlett often but I remember the hoo-hah about replacing the canopies in the railway press at the time, a lot of our Victorian stations have been ruined by today's planners, alas, and not just in London. I will have a look at the link you gave me a.s.a.p., in the meantime thank you for visiting my site and I hope you continue to enjoy the photos. I would be happy to add you to my mailing update list if you would like that, just let me know. Kind regards, David
